Cancel Culture

”The phenomenon of promoting the “canceling” of people, brands, shows, movies, etc., due to what some consider to be offensive or problematic remarks or ideologies.”…cancel culture has been present throughout human history. Societies have punished people for behaving outside of perceived social norms for centuries,” says Dr. Jill McCorkel, Professor of Sociology and Criminology at Villanova University.

Cancel culture has evolved into a much bolder social process of banishment. Prof. McCorkel states: It is “designed to reinforce the set of norms” with social media. The more trendy name of cancel culture has been “placing celebrities, companies, media, under a microscope of political correctness.” An example of this culture: “Twitter users are often known for their FBI-like investigative skills; digging up past dirt, old secrets,”etc., and are now being canceled.

“The collective canceling of someone,” or a social media outlet, “creates a sense of solidarity,” Prof. McCorkel explained; “it reinforces the feeling of togetherness, that “we are a group and we don’t tolerate that kind of behavior…it reinforces…a sense of shared solidarity, at least among the people…doing the canceling…it’s psychologically intoxicating to feel part of a group and to feel a part of something larger than yourself.”

“The rigidity right now in American political discourse is problematic because you really can’t have a high functioning democracy without people being willing to engage one another in meaningful ways, to hash out their political disagreements….

“We have to be able to come together across these political differences and sort out what are the optimal solutions…we can’t do that if we are dug into our respective trenches and unwilling to engage across those political divides.”- Prof. McCorkel, nypost.com. 7/10/20.

Conclusion: It’s obvious by now that cancel culture is now like a runaway train. There’s no stopping it, especially when Twitter can permanently ban The President of the United States. The ONLY answer is to create forums, search engines, etc., that are not dependent on a company’s political philosophies, thus shutting you down if you’re “non-compliant.” Disagreeing with the fake news fairytales, digging for the absolute truth, exposing criminals and criminality, will never end. WeThePeople do not tolerate injustice and we will fight for it, to our last breath. / Done

I started out a little nothing on Twitter 5 years ago. I always had a love for research, writing, digging for the truth. My very first writing class in Queens College, after I wrote my first paper, my Professor wanted to talk to me after class. Before I even sit down in her office, she says to me: “You’re very talented.” I said thank you, I appreciate that, but I’m also a practical kid. I knew pursuing writing out of college wasn’t a guaranteed job, so I became a Pharmacist. Now, as a Pharmacist for 44 years and an owner for 30 years, I now can devote time to my passion. My very first threaded tweet on Twitter was a hit, about how Sonny Bono was murdered, because even as a kid, I never believed that story that he died by slamming into a tree while skiing. It got a great response on Twitter and motivated me to do more research and writing. I was suspended from Twitter, but I always wrote on paper before writing on Twitter, and kept all my writings. I developed Thawts.net and took almost a year to rewrite everything onto my site. Now, anything I write is new stuff and about any subject of my choice. I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy writing. Sincerely, Harvey Staub 👍🇺🇸

  1. Just to leave another point here: I object to the argument by some that “Twitter is a private company, and isn’t bound by the 1st Amendment. Sure, one can make that case, but silencing opposing ideas is still wrong. A private company with the highest ethos and regard for liberty can MODEL their rules and terms of service on the 1st Amendment ideals put forth and not on the ideals of a totalitarian like Stalin or any two bit fascist dictator. People like Jack, if you don’t honor that then you can set up your business in China or Venezuela. If you’re here, you ought to abide by the principles set forth in your native land.
